Ard Chúram

Community Choir

The Ard Chúram Community Choir is once again up and running since Jan 2024, after a long absence due to Covid and the retirement from the Choir of the then accomplished musical director.

The Choir meets every Thursday at 1pm in the Fuchsia Centre under local and most talented directors, Bryan and Shelby Mulvihill, both experienced music teachers.

The Choir welcomes new members and enquiries can be made to Marie or Brenda at 087 9585100

Ard Chúram Community Choir came in to being in 2018 with the help of Healthy Ireland Funding. Ms. Mairéad Hanlon, Activities Co coordinator for the Older People of North Kerry and an employee of Ard Chúram was charged with the task of forming a choir. The project was an immediate success. The choir, then under the baton of Killarney based Soprano Mary Culloty O’Sullivan had a membership of 80+, all from the North Kerry and all over the aged of fifty five. The choir rehearsed in the local Hospital Church and from 2024 on will rehearse in the Community room of the Fuchsia Centre.

For Christmas ’19 The Ard Chúram Community Choir were the main performers at a Concert in St. Mary’s Church Listowel along with other local musical and dance groups. Substantial funds were raised for the New Alzheimer’s Centre.

The Choir held another Concert at the 2019 Writers Week Festival along with Fr. Ray Kelly (Britain Got Talent fame) and with local hero Cyril Kelly of Sunday Miscellany renown. A number of standing ovations were given and further substantial funds were raised, again for the new Centre.

The Choir recorded its own EP “Together in Song” and recorded its Christmas special, the Chris de Burgh number, ‘A spaceman came travelling’ which received great acclaim. Listen Here.
