Dementia Centre for North Kerry
Dementia has been described as a tsunami that is affecting all of our communities. In fact
the Centre for Economic Research and Development in UCG estimates that there are 170
people living at home with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, within 10 miles of Listowel. The number
is increasing all the time, at a rate of 3%per year. So by the time the new Census comes
around there will probably be over 200 people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s in that part of
Listowel.
To meet this need and having completed the Development of its existing Day Centre for Older People, Ard Chúram have built a new 5k.sq.ft Purpose Build Dementia Day Care Centre. Chairman of Ard Chúram’s Building sub Committee said, “We in Ard Chúram are very excited about this new project. The Centre was built to highest spec, was fitted out with best available advice and one of its many features is an indoor garden.”
The building with full fit has cost in excess of €1m so all donations gratefully received.
